About our ottawa chapter
The Ottawa chapter was started by Sayeda Bhatti. She moved to Ottawa from Edmonton, where she had been a member.
She soon put out a call for Muslim women in Ottawa to join CCMW, and in April 1989, the inaugural gathering was held and hosted by Sayeda and the original founding members Lila Fahlman, Talat Muinudin, among others. And the Ottawa Chapter was born. Guided by the principles and vision of the founding CCMW women, the new Ottawa chapter members embraced the advocacy and activism objectives of Equality, Equity and Empowerment of Muslim Women.
We strive to include Muslim women from all diverse background who are ready to engage, discuss, plan and organize to participate and opine on issues that affect us all as we move forward in the 21st century in Canada
