The Canadian College of Healthcare and Pharmaceutics (CCHAP) is a registered entity under the Private Career College Act of 2005. The mandate of CCHAP is to provide post-secondary vocational and non- vocation programs in healthcare and pharmaceutics to Canadians and New Immigrants.

Our vocational programs include: 1) Medical Office Assistant Diploma & 2) Personal Support Worker Certificate. We offer various job-ready non-vocational programs including Phlebotomy, Intramuscular Injection, ECG, Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance, EMR / OHIP billing, Healthcare Data Analytics, and many exam preparatory programs (e.g., MCCQE, ARDMS, MLT/A).

During 2020, the college helped over 150 healthcare professionals including internationally trained health professionals gain valuable skills to address critical shortages in Ontario healthcare workforce. We are located towards the East end of Toronto on the junction of three municipalities, Toronto, Mississauga, and Brampton at 5481 Dundas St. West, Toronto, ON.

Speaker’s Bio

Umbreen Akhtar is a physician by education and have a specialized degree in intensive care from France. She has completed post-graduate diplomas in epidemiology (France) and clinical research (York U.). She is currently working as an Epidemic Prevention and Control Specialist with the Canadian Red Cross. She also has a position with Dynacare as Special Project Coordinator and worked on various special projects related to clinical research and public health including with Ontario Public Health, Control of Hepatitis C and HIV in homeless people in the GTA and the doping control for the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport. She is an author of 12 indexed research publications, of which she is first author on four studies.

She is the Chief Executive Officer and Director of the Canadian College of Healthcare and Pharmaceutics, a registered post-secondary institution under the Private Career College Act of 2005. The college has been involved in skills training of hundreds of professionals over the last 3 years. In this role she is involved in training of nurses, medical students, research professionals and international medical graduates.

She is also the program director for the Phlebotomy and Field Health Examiner program at the college. Under her leadership, the program has received accreditations from many academic hospitals including University Health Network in Toronto.

Beyond her academic and work achievements, Umbreen is active in the community as board of director of South Asian Canadians Health and Social Services – SACHSS, a registered charity. She has organized several health and community awareness campaigns with the funding from the Government of Ontario. She has organized four large events to highlight Women entrepreneurs of color in Peel and Halton regions. She was also part of organizing over ten home safety awareness campaigns for seniors in the Greater Toronto Area in 2017 and 2018. Since March of 2020, she has helped organizing COVID- 19 awareness for South Asians in spring, summer and autumn of 2020. She has also served with several non-profit organizations in the GTA. She has sponsored and settled five (5) Syrian refugee families. She is a co-founder of Spreading Humanity group through which she did multiple humanitarian projects locally and internationally. Was part of COVID relief activities through multiple organisations all across GTA. For her community services she has been awarded Leading Women award by Govt Of Ontario in 2018 and Leading Women award in 2016. She has received accolades from several government ministers, MPs, and MPPs over the years.
