1. What have been the most rewarding aspects of your work so far?

The most rewarding aspects of my work have been witnessing the transformative power of storytelling and creativity in amplifying voices often unheard. Seeing the positive impact of my efforts in advocating for equity has been truly fulfilling. It's the moments when someone feels seen and empowered that make my career meaningful for me.

2. What have been some of the more challenging aspects?

I find integrating academic insights into real-world scenarios and confronting the nuanced dimensions of anti-oppression work and gender-based violence prove to be constant challenges. Bridging theory with practical application demands a persistent commitment to understanding diverse perspectives and refining strategies. Navigating these intricacies requires continuous reflection, adaptability, and a recognition that each challenge is an opportunity for growth and enhanced impact within the realm of social justice.

3. Name a Black Muslim woman who has been an inspiration to you and why.

Rawdah Mohamed has been a constant source of inspiration for me. As a Somali-Norwegian model celebrated for her style, she effortlessly blends fashion and advocacy. Rawdah's commitment to championing the rights of Muslim women resonates deeply with me as a fellow creative. I draw inspiration from her resilience and unwavering stance against injustices. Rawdah's journey motivates me to infuse creativity and advocacy into my own work, cultivating positive change within the Muslim community and beyond.

4. In light of the prevailing atrocities we are witnessing in regions such as Gaza, Sudan, and Congo, please provide insights into potential avenues for demonstrating solidarity with the affected populations, as well as healing mechanisms you have been using to cope during this time.

Engaging in interfaith healing circles at Emmanuel College provided a communal space for emotional healing. These circles facilitated a collective mourning experience, nurturing unity and understanding among individuals of diverse faiths. Additionally, therapy, particularly with the Canadian Muslim Counselling agency, has been instrumental in my personal healing journey. Their approach rooted in Islamic principles has been crucial in navigating the emotional challenges brought about by the current global atrocities.
