About the Seminar for legal professionals: Friday, October 22, 1:00 PM to 3:00 p.m.
A free online seminar designed for lawyers, paralegals, judges, and justices of the peace who would like to increase their understanding of how to provide legal counsel more effectively to Canadian Muslim women. The seminar will take a gendered approach to examine the intersections between Canadian family law and a range of Muslim understandings of concepts such as mahr, divorce, polygamy, and inheritance. This seminar is on track to be accredited by the Law Society of Ontario so that lawyers and paralegals may count it toward their Continuing legal education (CLE)/Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours. This seminar is a part of the sixth annual Access to Justice Week, featuring engaging content for licensees, the broader justice sector and the general public on the themes of inclusive justice and community building. Access to Justice Week brings together a range of justice sector stakeholders locally and from across Canada to develop meaningful, public-centered solutions that advance systemic change in the justice system.

About the Understanding Canadian Muslim women seeking family law counsel Series
CCMW in partnership with the Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO), the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic, the Canadian Association of Muslim Women in Law (CAMWL), and Access to Justice Week 2021, developed a two-part seminar training as part of this year's Access to Justice Week. The aim is to share insights with lawyers and community workers so they may be better equipped to provide supports and services to Canadian Muslim women seeking family law counsel.
