The Government of Canada will host a National Summit on Islamophobia on July 22.

MPs voted unanimously in favour of a motion calling for this summit last month, following the attack in London, Ont., that killed four members of a Muslim family as they were out for an evening walk.

The summit will bring together a diverse group of community and political leaders, academics, activists, and members with intersectional identities within the Canadian Muslim communities. Together, participants will continue charting a path forward to combat racism and discrimination.

CCMW's Executive director Nuzhat Jafri will be participating in the Summit, and will share the experiences and perspectives of CCMW members and of young women and girls on Islamophobia, with a focus on the gendered aspects of Islamophobia, and what needs to be done to address it.

In preparation for the Summit, CCMW is hosting a Young Peoples Roundtable on Islamophobia with the Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and the Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development.

The event is designed to get a youth-based perspective on Islamophobia and to initiate discussion between the Ministers and young women and girls of diverse identities on how to address Islamophobia, misogyny and other challenges they are facing in today's context. The discussion will help shape CCMW's contribution to the National Action Summit and a national action plan to address Islamophobia.

Racialized girls and young women and trans and non-binary young people aged 15 to 30 years are encouraged to sign up to attend the CCMW Young Peoples Roundtable on Islamophobia

Your ideas will help shape CCMW's contribution to the National Action Summit and a national action plan to address Islamophobia. Space is limited so be sure to register today.
