Islamic Heritage Month PROCLAMATION
CCMW Durham President Kubra with members Maryum Ahmed, Rabia Shaikh, Farzana Anum were presented with a proclamation for Islamic Heritage Month by Whitby Mayor, Don Mitchell along with Councilor Maleeha Shahid, Councillor Steve Yamanda and Councillor Diedra Newman. MP Ryan Turnball spoke at the event along with Eric, Office Manager for MPP Lorne Coe.

Ajax Public Library Showcase
CCMW Durham has a showcase at Ajax Public Library featuring the artwork of Safia Malik for Islamic History month. This is the third year that Safia has shared her beautiful artwork with the local community.
Safia Malik is an award-winning, self-taught artist who grew up in Toronto, Canada, and is currently residing in the Town of Ajax. She graduated from the University of Toronto, majoring in Psychology, Sociocultural Anthropology, and Human Exceptionality.
Safia’s work has been exhibited at Royal Ontario Museum, universities, and cultural Festivals in Toronto. Over the years, Safia’s focus has become Traditional Arts and Arabic Calligraphy because of its divinity and beauty. She loves to create art pieces inspired by the Quranic verses and Islamic History as she travels and explores the Traditional Islamic Arts around the world.
Safia has worked at CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) as an Art Therapist in the women's program. She has also taught Islamic Art at various schools and has been conducting workshops for children and adults across North America.
