CCMW’s International Women’s Day Message 2012
On International Women’s Day we would like to pay tribute to women worldwide who contribute to the well-being of their families, communities and countries. 2012 also marks CCMW’s 30th year of working for the equality, equity and empowerment of Canadian Muslim women. We would therefore like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and applaud the hard work of all our members, past and present. It has been the support and commitment of all our members over these 30 years that has allowed us to carry out the work and projects we do today.
While we celebrate the strides women have made there is still a long way to go. The last year has seen much global political turmoil and women were subjected to horrendous acts of violence. Within Canada violence against women is still a serious issue which impacts all women, regardless of their race, religion, culture, age, etc. In many countries maternal/female health is still not a priority. Despite all of this women have also continued demonstrate inspirational courage.
We would like to take this opportunity to renew our commitment to women’s rights, and also thank all our members, supporters and friends who have helped and encouraged us over the past 30 years in our struggle for gender equality.
