Happy International Women’s Day!

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Significant activity is witnessed worldwide as groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or rally for women's equality.

Join us today to celebrate and applaud the achievements of Muslim women who have inspired and continue to inspire people of all faiths, backgrounds, and fields of endeavour.

CCMW is dedicated to the equality, equity and empowerment of all Muslim women and girls in Canada and we continue to take actions against gender-based violence. Our intersectional approach has allowed us to create meaningful change, empower others to join us and effect change within their spheres of influence. Our work gives us the privilege to learn of, and partner with amazing Muslim women who are working daily to change the world.

The campaign theme for this year's International Women's Day is ‘Break The Bias’. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it difficult for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists is not enough, action is needed to level the playing field. A world free of bias is a world free of hate and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

You can show your support and solidarity by crossing your arms and striking the IWD 2022 post. Share your #BreakTheBias on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.

As we celebrate today, let’s remember the mourning and displaced women and children in Ukraine and war zones and occupied lands around the world.  Our prayers and solidarity will give them the strength to continue to resist aggressors everywhere.
