A Year in Review

2022 has been a challenging year for Muslim women, with the ongoing atrocities in Afghanistan, Iran, and elsewhere along with the continuous rise of Islamophobia. CCMW stands in solidarity with our sisters in Iran, Afghanistan and Quebec in their fight for freedom and their right to choose what they wear and the lives they deserve to live in peace and safety, including the right to an education and meaningful employment.  CCMW unequivocally condemns Afghanistan's ban on secondary and post-secondary education for women and girls.

In the face of these challenges, Muslim communities have come together to support one another and take a stand against hate and injustice. CCMW is proud to have led and participated in various initiatives throughout the year to counter racism and hate and celebrate the many achievements of Muslim women across Canada. We continued to fight Islamophobia by providing 70+ Anti-Racism Education Workshops to over 4,000 participants, we spread awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) in multiple languages and provided supports to Muslim women facing GBV through our Gender-Based Violence Project, we trained community members on how to be an advocate, and championed the voices and accomplishments of Muslim women with our Black Muslimahs Shining series, our Muslim Women Scholars Series, celebrating Islamic Herstory during Islamic History Month and our annual Women Who Inspire Awards. You can view all of our recorded events from 2022 on our Website or in this YouTube playlist.
