International Day to Combat Islamophobia

On this significant occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia, the Canadian Council of Muslim Women stands in solidarity with Muslims across the globe in condemning the pervasive discrimination, prejudice, and violence faced by individuals solely based on their faith.

Islamophobia continues to be a grave concern, not only undermining the fundamental rights and dignity of Muslims but also eroding the fabric of our diverse societies. It perpetuates harmful stereotypes, fosters division, and threatens social cohesion.

Islamophobia not only manifests itself in individual acts of bigotry but also plays a role in perpetuating systemic injustices, including the ongoing genocide in Palestine. The dehumanization of Muslims contributes to the marginalization and oppression of Palestinians, exacerbating their suffering and denying them their basic rights and freedoms. Islamophobia is also playing out in the lives of Canadian Muslims as they express their solidarity with Palestinians.

As an organization dedicated to promoting the equality, equity, and empowerment of Muslim women in Canada and beyond, we reaffirm our commitment to combating Islamophobia in all its forms. We advocate for dialogue, understanding, and the promotion of human rights for all individuals, regardless of their religious affiliation.

We call upon governments, civil society organizations, and individuals to actively challenge Islamophobic rhetoric, policies, and actions. It is imperative that we work together to foster inclusive societies where diversity is celebrated, and all individuals are treated with respect and dignity.
