In Solidarity with Palestine

The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine during this unprecedented time. We express our deep concern over the ongoing violence affecting the region and condemn all acts of violence that harm innocent lives in Gaza and Israel. These actions only exacerbate the ongoing suffering and hinder prospects for peace.

As an organization committed to promoting social justice, equality, and human rights, we believe in the fundamental principles of justice, dignity, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background, ethnicity, or faith.  The people of Palestine have endured 7 decades of conflict and suffering, which have resulted in the loss of countless lives and the displacement of thousands of families.

It is crucial to acknowledge the deeply-rooted issues surrounding the conflict in the region. Israel’s apartheid regime plays a significant role in perpetuating this conflict, causing immense suffering and injustice to Palestinians. We call for a just and equitable resolution to this crisis that respects international laws and the rights and dignity of all individuals living in the region.

The brutality of the current state of violence cannot be sustained. It only leads to more suffering, grief, and destruction.  Women and children are the most vulnerable and all civilians are in need of protection. Our heartfelt condolences to all those harmed by this violence in Palestine and Israel and we extend our support to the families who have lost their loved ones.

Here in Canada, we are witnessing a steep rise in Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism. This is especially impacting visibly Muslim women who have reported a peak in harassment and anti-Muslim speech.

We call for an immediate cease-fire on both sides and serious negotiations to address the root causes of this conflict and call for all levels of government to support all Canadians equitably as guaranteed by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedom and human rights laws across the country.
