Shoebox project for local women's shelters
CCMW Durham Region spread some Christmas cheer by donating $1250 worth of gifts and essential items packaged in shoeboxes for local women impacted by homelessness. Our members met at the Ajax Firehall to drop off the shoeboxes and had an opportunity to speak to the staff of this essential service. Some of the local shelters that will receive the shoeboxes are the Muslim Welfare Centre, Denise House, and YWCA. Thank you to Rashmina for organizing and Ruby for shopping for supplies.
A Shoebox gift is a powerful reminder for a woman that she has not been forgotten and that she remains a valued and respected member of her community. For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, special occasions can be particularly challenging. Often, women report feeling disconnected from society, invisible, and alone. https://www.shoeboxproject.ca/about
After dropping off the shoeboxes, some of us met at lunch at Dspot, a local restaurant that offers delicious desserts and meal items.
