Eid Party
Durham Region rented Carruther Creek Pavillon in Ajax and over 40 members attended the Eid party. It was our first large-scale meeting after two years of pandemic restrictions. Maryum was the Masters of Ceremonies for our event and did an amazing job by keeping us on track for time. It was wonderful to dress up and meet other members of the chapter.
Lunch was ordered from Helmand Kabob House in Pickering and we had mango mousse from Maryum, cupcakes from Tarannum, and Sheer Korma from Farah. Prizes were donated by Shazia of Zayver, Sherbanu of Financial Services, Maria Ali Khan from Maskimum design, Tahira from Nur shop, Ruby of Haleem Queen, and Muqaddas of Jeweloholic babes.
Thank you to our Executive Director, Nuzhat, and Mariam for attending our event. Nuzhat spoke about the history of CCMW and the many projects we are undertaking on a national level. Mariam spoke about her work as a fundraising officer and the money raised for women facing gender-based violence.
Durham Region has done ten workshops on Islamophobia and cyberbullying since December 2021. Nuzhat handed out certificates for our Islamophobia workshop presenters: Natalia, Farzana, Maryum, Ruby, and Kubra. Mumtaz has presented a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding work in organizing Iftar for university and college students.
As we celebrated Eid, we remembered the less fortunate by donating food items to Nurish food bank in Oshawa mosque. Nurish helps over 60 families in the local areas by providing them with groceries on a monthly basis.
