Announcing the 2021 Women Who Inspire Award Recipients
The Canadian Council of Muslim Women (CCMW) is delighted to announce seven outstanding Canadian Muslim women trailblazers as the recipients of the 2021 Women Who Inspire Awards. The women in this exceptional, diverse and resilient group were chosen for their accomplishments in a wide range of industries, and their commitment to empowering women and improving the lives of others.
The winners will be celebrated at the 2021 Women Who Inspire Awards and Scholarship presentation, which will take place online on November 14, 1:00 to 3:00 pm EST. The event, which will be live streamed across Canada, is centered on the theme of Resilience and Self-Care in Turbulent Times. The honourees will each speak about their experiences of resilience and overcoming setbacks and challenges on their quest for equality and social justice. Keynote remarks will be shared by activist and human rights defender Pashtana Durrani, and spoken word artist Frishta “Fresh” Bastan and musician Sadaf Mohebbi will perform at the event.
Since 2007, CCMW has been recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of Canadian Muslim women who are committed to doing important work and improving the lives of others. The event is the organization's annual fundraiser that helps raise funds to support promising Canadian Muslim women in their studies through the Lila Fahlman Scholarship, which is named after the late Dr. Lila Fahlman, a renowned educator and founder of CCMW. The winners of the 2021/22 Lila Falhman Scholarship will also be felicitated at the awards presentation. Proceeds from tickets for the event, which are now on sale at ccmw.com, will go towards the Scholarship Fund.
Nuzhat Jafri, Executive Director of CCMW, congratulated the winners for their incredible achievements and for inspiring future generations of Muslim women leaders. “Our honourees this year hail from diverse backgrounds and are trailblazers and role models for us all. Challenging the conventional stereotypes, these women proudly serve their communities and are a source of inspiration and pride for the Canadian Muslim community."
Speaking about the theme of the event, Nuzhat said: "This year has been particularly difficult for all of us. It's time to come together and celebrate what is good and reflect on how we move forward beyond the challenges of the day. We're thrilled that our honourees will share their compelling stories about what inspires them and what keeps them going against all odds, and look forward to hearing from them."
"We are honoured to celebrate the stories and accomplishments of our 2021 winners,” said CCMW President, Nina Karachi-Khaled. “We’re very excited to recognize these brilliant, traliblazing Canadian Muslim women who are making significant contributions to our communities through their leadership, and are inspiring, mentoring, and creating opportunities for other women. We hope you can join us on November 14 to honour them and celebrate their tireless pursuit towards positive change."
