Start of a New Chapter for CCMW as a Registered Charity
Your Donations to CCMW are Now Tax-Deductible!
CCMW is pleased to announce that it has been granted charitable status by the Canada Revenue Agency. This is a crucial step in helping the organization reach its full fundraising potential and realize its operational and advocacy goals. The change also marks the start of an exciting new chapter for CCMW, which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year.
Being a charity will bring many benefits to CCMW – it will be able to maximise donations, apply for more grants and also be more attractive to potential sponsors and funders. In addition, as a charitable organization, CCMW can write out its own tax receipts to donors. All donors who contribute $25 or over will receive a tax receipt directly from CCMW for the full eligible amount of their donation at the end of the year.
Nina Karachi-Khaled, President of CCMW said: “This is a huge milestone for CCMW and we are delighted to receive recognition that our work is of benefit to the public. We will continue to listen to our communities, provide support and information to Muslim women and girls across Canada, and stand up for their rights and choices. Becoming a charity will only strengthen our ability to do what we do best and create new opportunities in the future.”
Nuzhat Jafri, Executive Director of CCMW echoed the sentiments: “We are thrilled to receive charitable status. This will allow us to ramp up our fundraising efforts to maximize our potential even further. This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of everyone involved with CCMW, and I am delighted that we can now work together to further our mission as a registered charity. Achieving charitable status took a huge amount of work and we are very grateful to Firdaus Ali, our Project Lead on the charitable status for all her help in making this possible."
Achieving charitable status was possible because of the Strengthening Capacity grant from the Department of Women and Gender Equality. CCMW would like to thank all its private donors, as well as the Government of Canada, Women and Gender Equality Canada and The Law Foundation of Ontario for their ongoing funding.
