Nagad Elmi: 2021

Salaam, my name is Nagad Elmi. I am a first generation university student currently studying at Concordia University Of Edmonton with a major in Business and minor in IT. With my degree, I hope to go into law school and give my community the support it needs to grow.

I have always found sports, fashion and volunteering interesting because through my experiences playing on teams taught me the value of a community. I started to get involved in the Somali community in my early 20s and it is probably the best decision I ever made thankful for my friends bringing me in. One of my greatest accomplishments was also coaching in sports because I can encourage youth to love the sport and learn the importance of themselves and their surroundings.

Also being someone who is of Muslim and African Decent I find it amazing that I can represent those titles on my shoulders and prove that it is not a set back but a strength to show what we as muslim women are capable of anything and that society will be our kryptonite. As a community organizer supporting my community is my priority, so I am grateful for the scholarship program by a community organization such as CCMW. .
