Rabea Murtaza: 2016

Rabea Murtaza is a community worker, facilitator, researcher, advocate, and the founder of the group Muslims for Ontario’s Health and Physical Education Curriculum. Through her earlier work with grassroots organizations including the Women’s Counselling, Referral and Education Centre and the North York Women’s Centre, Rabea designed and facilitated a support group with young women of colour facing racism, sexism, homophobia, Islamophobia, ableism, and conflicting cultural pressures. She is a teacher, a trainer, and an important mentor for young people.  As an instructor with George Brown College, Rabea is consistently widening the sphere of discussion, consultation and decision-making, and making sure that some of our most marginalized and vulnerable voices are heard.
