Feed the Need in Durham

Durham Region brought 18 volunteers to Feed the Need in Durham which is located in Oshawa. and the majority were children of the members. It was nice to be able to volunteer as a group after two years since all events were canceled due to the pandemic.

Feed the Need in Durham is the Regional Distribution Hub for emergency food providers in the community. They collect/rescue surplus and donated perishable and non-perishable food & other product to support frontline providers including food banks, shelters, meal programs, in-school nutritional programs & other social service agencies. Feed the Need in Durham distributes 1.44 million pounds of food each year, equivalent to 1.2 million meals.

Our group was given a tour of the facility and learned how they provide support to local organizations. We helped sort out boxes by checking for expiry dates and placing the items in bins in the warehouse. It made us very thankful for our own blessings of food, family, and shelter especially as there is turmoil and war around the world.
